The Best Star Wars Moments… So Far

In just a few days, we’ll most likely have a few more epic moments to add to the lexicon of amazing movie scenes that Star Wars has given us. But until then, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the unforgettable phrases and shocking moments that have made Star Wars such a success so far…

Duel of the Fates, featuring Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi The prequels, released more recently, came under heavy fire from critics for not living up to the standards of the previous three movies – but there were a few special moments in the series, not least this epic lightsabre fight. You can’t listen to the epic choral barrage that is ‘Duel of the Fates’ without picturing the incredible fight-to-the-death. We hope the new movies will come with plenty of awesome moments like this.

Rebel Ship vs Star Destroyer

The unforgettable shot of the colossal Star Destroyer chasing the Rebel ship Tantive IV is one what captures what Star Wars is about for many. The Star Destroyer simply kept on coming, with more of the enormous ship coming into shot as the Rebel ship sank into the distance – for its era, it was an incredible technical achievement of special effects, and one that still impresses today.

“I love you.” “I know.” (Han and Leia)

Star Wars has romance at its very core, and the relationship between Han Solo and Princess Leia has captured the hearts of so many. When they’re finally captured, Han’s life hangs in the balance when he’s chosen to test a freezing mechanism that could backfire. Leia finally tells him that she loves him, and Han responds in true rebel style – “I know.” Star Wars couples all over the world have since adopted this sweet little phrase as their own.

“I am your father.”

Is there a line which epitomises Star Wars more perfectly than this? Luke

Skywalker can’t believe his ears when Darth Vader reveals he’s the dear old dad that the young Jedi was so interested to learn about. This iconic moment will go down as one of cinema’s greatest.

Who knew that everyone’s favourite masked villain actually had a heart? Darth Vader (or Anakin Skywalker, as he was once known) ends up saving his son and sacrificing himself, showing that there is a little good left in him from his days as a sweet little Tattooine boy with an incredible power. But who knows what twists and turns the new saga will add to this complicated backstory?
